Sample Exam for my Media Studies Course

Hey y'all, this post is a little different.

All I'm doing is rewriting my midterm exam for my media course. It was based on the opening clip from Marvel's"Agent Carter"

Here it is (enjoy, I guess?):
In this extract of "Agent Carter," we get many examples of how the directors, actors, and set designers produce good cinematography that encapsulates the audience and makes us feel what the actor feels.
In the opening of the clip, we see a comic-style title card, which tells us it will be a superhero film. Then it fades to black. The whole time, we hear the asynchronous dialogue between Agent Carter and Captain America. After the fade, this dialogue becomes synchronous. We are allowed to picture what happens and then see for ourselves how well the exposition hooks us. The lighting is low-key, and we see Agt. Carter was emotionally devasted in a dark control room after hearing Cpt. America inflicts his own demise, being his only option left. We then cut to an overhead of Cpt. America looking at a photo of Agt. Carter before he dies, and her doing the same at her desk later in the clip. This tells us that they were more than friends.
After this opening, we see Agt. Carter is in a low-key, deep two-shot with another agent, They are sitting at their desks facing forward doing work. All would seem normal, but then a creepy guy walks in and has a conversation about why they don't assign her missions. This conversation is shot back and forth from a two-shot over-the-shoulder to mid-shots. We are able to empathize with Agt. Carter as the cameras seem to highlight how depressing it is for her to be treated unequally, even though she is just as qualified to work on a mission.
Later, we get an interior establishing shot of the office she's in. Agt. Carter is alone in a dark room, doing late-night work. Then we cut to the scene mentioned earlier of her opening a drawer with a picture of Cpt. America. Sad, somber music plays, which conveys that she still has feelings and is still going through grief. This allows the audience to empathize with her feelings too. Then a smash cut to her boss and male coworkers coming in, mentioning their going out for drinks. We cut back to her, getting excited but then her boss asked her to stay late to finalize reports. We can see the expression on her face, showing how crushing it is, and we zoom into her expressions of joy, inclusivity, and happiness drain away.
Now alone, Agt. Carter does as asked until the alarm goes off. A close-up of her half-lit face from the red alarm light shows her excitement. She rushes to the scene, and we see multiple action-packed smash cuts of her beating up the bad guys. The end of the clip is of the leader with a gun to his head, a close-up in a dark industrial yard. The clip ends, leaving us all wondering what happens after.

And that's all y'all!

C'yall for the last time on the next post!
